All candidates should have experience working in the subject industry for at least 3 years. 

We will train and help you to secure your teaching qualification while you work.

What is Taking Teaching Further:

The Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme has been developed to attract experienced industry professionals, with expert technical knowledge and skills, to work in Sixth Form and FE colleges.

The aim of the programme:

▪ Raise the profile and prestige of teaching, particularly amongst industry professionals.

▪ Increase the overall number of skilled technical teaching roles by helping our college to support experienced industry professionals with the training that they require to become FE teachers.

All candidates should have experience working in the subject industry for at least 3 years.  They must have a GCSE in Maths & English and have the qualifications supporting the subject taught at least at Level 3. 

However, Shooters Hill Sixth Form College engage to support successful candidates not holding a Level 2 GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and /or English, to gain a Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and/or English prior to starting their teaching qualification.

These posts are ideal for those who are at the end of their career, or already retired, and those who think to change career direction and work in education.

Recruitment for Maths, English and SEND non-qualified teacher will teach within the ‘core skills’ element, our aim is to support the recruitment of business and industry experts to teach English and maths, to technical subject students, or support learners with SEND into employment in our technical areas.  Recruits should be: - from an industry/workplace that involves the regular use of literacy or numeracy to a high-standard, or - from an industry/workplace where the recruit has a high-level understanding and regular exposure to SEND.

Both routes “Core skills” (Maths/English/SEND) and “Specialist Industry” (subject areas) trainee teachers will get a reduced timetable, Intensive support (work shadowing/ mentoring), and a teaching qualification at the end of 2 years.

The College will insure that they are trained and gain a teaching qualification within the 2 years of employment, they must be willing to take a Diploma in Education and Training (DET) at Level 5, while teaching with us.  We are engaging to support them in their training by giving them extra support from an allocated mentor, we are expecting them to take part in all our CPDs. 

They will be observing, shadowing and team teach a 0.5 time at the beginning of employment, then gradually they will have their own group to teach, and teaching hours will be increased as they get experience.  Note that there is a reduction of 10% in timetables when reaching full time teaching in the first year, and 5% in the second year.
