Shooters Hill College hosted their first Health Care Careers Day on Tuesday 20th February 2024!
We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the Health Care Careers Day in conjunction with the Royale Borough of Greenwich, and Oxlease NHS for approximately 90 students from 7 schools and 70 of our own students. We had 20 practising professionals at the event, giving up their time to give students from the borough exposure to a wealth of professions within the medical and health sector.
Young people who aspire towards the medical and health profession all had the opportunity to have their questions answered, from a wealth of medics and health care professionals. We were able to reach our ambition for the afternoon by creating a space which enabled the young people from the Royale Brough of Greenwich schools connect with some great health professionals.
Year 10 and 11 students were excited to meet and have conversations with the professionals, they were also able to look at equipment that is used on real life patience. It was surprising that some of these students had never had the opportunity to meet a dietician, podiatrist, or physio, and now they they have a good understanding about what their day looks like.
Shooters Hill Sixth Form college students were able to explore a wealth of careers in health and social care, occupational therapy and other medical fields which enabled them to become knowledgeable and enquiring as to which Higher Education courses would be most suitable for their individual aspirational needs, our students were able to have open discussions about the various roles within the medical and social care sector, preparing themselves for their future pathways.
