Overview
Taster Programme Hospitality & Catering
This short course is designed for young people who have an interest in the hospitality and catering industry. It is designed for potential students who are hoping to pursue a full-time NVQ Food Preparation and Cooking or Food and Beverage Service programme in September.
The course is suitable for those without prior knowledge of catering and those who have had some catering work experience. Whilst undertaking this introductory programme, students will perform against a set of criteria.

- Work in professional kitchens Prepare & cook a 3 course lunch
- Serve in City View Restaurant
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Health & safety awareness
- Professional knife skills
- Making cocktails
- Herbs & spices
- 1:1 interviews & initial assessments
- Prepare & serve an end of course buffet

further information.
Exams
As part of the programme students take a L2 Food Safety in Catering Exam.
Requirements
A 1:1 interview with one of our Hospitality & Catering Lecturers, satisfactory references and/or school report and assessment of the candidates commitment to the course.
Careers
After participating in the taster programme you would need to complete NVQ 1 & 2 before commencing a career in the Hospitality & Catering industry.
