The VTCT Level 1 Hairdressing qualification is perfect for those who are passionate about starting a career in hairdressing. This introductory course teaches essential skills such as shampooing, conditioning and styling, while also focusing on developing a professional attitude and customer care. 

Course Content

The Level 1 Hairdressing course provides a fundamental understanding of hair care and styling. Students will develop essential skills that will allow them to work in entry-level positions in salons or progress to further qualifications.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in the VTCT Level 1 Hairdressing course, you’ll need: 

  • Grade 2 or above in GCSE Maths and English 

  • A keen interest in the industry 

Careers

Upon completing the VTCT Level 1 Hairdressing, you can pursue various entry-level career paths, including: 

  1. Junior Stylist – Assisting senior stylists with basic hairdressing tasks like washing, conditioning, and blow-drying hair. 

  1. Salon Assistant – Supporting salon operations by preparing clients, cleaning, and assisting with day-to-day tasks. 

  1. Barbering Assistant – Helping with basic barbering services such as cutting, trimming, and grooming hair for men. 

  1. Receptionist in a Hair Salon – Managing appointments, customer inquiries, and front-of-house duties in a hairdressing environment. 

  1. Hairdressing Retail Assistant – Advising customers on hair care products and assisting with product sales in retail shops. 

This qualification lays the foundation for further study and career progression in hairdressing, such as moving on to Level 2 and 3 qualifications for more advanced skills.
