
Overview
The Level 1 Introductory Award in Art and Design introduces students to basic creative techniques and principles in visual arts, helping them develop foundational skills for further study or entry-level opportunities in the creative industry.
Course Content
In recent years the course has included:

an introduction to the ‘design cycle’ through a link with a local charity Roots4Life in Eltham and an externally set brief.

Sketch-Up, Photoshop and other software.

A personal project – this offers students the chance to explore potential pathway interests.
Units
In recent years the course has consisted of the following units:

A2 Developing a Personal Progression Plan. This unit is combined with the college’s internal progression window whereby staff help students identify their preferred progression route and offer career advice.

Requirements
To enrol in the Level 1 Award in Art & Design course, you’ll need:

A portfolio of experience is useful but not a necessity
Careers
The natural progression point of this course is either a Level 1 Certificate or in rare instances, Level 2.
Alternatively, you may want to gain experience in other vocational areas such as Catering, IT, Construction or Hair and Beauty at Level 1.
