Entry 1 – Pathway to Independence (RARPA)
The Pathway to Independence course is designed to focus on the four areas of Preparing for adulthood (PfA). These include, Employment skills, Independent living Skills, Community inclusion and Health. RARPA courses are developed to meet the needs of the young person by setting individualised targets that are based on the outcomes within an EHCP.
Within the course you will take part in practical activities that include-
- Cooking
- Out in the community
- Gardening
- Supported Work Experience
- You will also undertake practical everyday maths and English

Entry Requirements
Would you like the chance to work in small groups with support to become more independent in a range of skills?
Would you like to make choices about your own learning?
Are you currently in a special school that caters for young people, who have severe and complex needs or ASD?
If you’ve answered yes to some of these questions, the Independence course at Shooters Hill could be the right course for you.
In most cases you will need to have a current Educational Health Care Plan to access this course.

Possible careers paths
The Independence Course at Shooters Hill helps you develop the skills and confidence to live more independently and work towards employment. After each year you can progress to a higher level within the Independence course for the next year or move on to a higher entry level course at Shooters Hill or elsewhere, into a supported internship or into employment.
