Shooter’s Hill College hosted nFocus, a leading Software Testing Consultancy, as part of its commitment to building strong industry connections and offering students real-world learning opportunities.

The event featured representatives from nFocus who shared insights into the fast-evolving IT sector, including emerging technologies, trends in software development, and the importance of quality assurance in tech projects. Students engaged with industry professionals through Q&A sessions, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities.

At Shooters Hill Sixth Form College, we want to make sure that our guests feel welcome, and in this instance, we made nFocus feel at home by giving them the space in the Drama Hall to exhibit their practices and teach our students about the IT world.

This collaboration allows our students to gain firsthand knowledge from experts in the field. It bridges the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations, preparing them for successful careers in technology.

For nFocus, the visit was a chance to connect with aspiring IT professionals and identify potential talent for future roles. They praised the college for its proactive approach to fostering industry-academic partnerships.

The event marks the beginning of what both parties hope will be an ongoing collaboration, inspiring the next generation of IT leaders while giving students valuable exposure to the demands of the tech world.

In a recent study, it was found that 42% of the public believes that there is a lack of IT and technology education, preventing the younger generation from developing an interest in and pursuing a career within the industry, which is bountiful with opportunities. Here are a few:

  • IT Technician

  • Quality Assurance Tester

  • Web Developer

  • Systems Analyst

  • Software Engineer

  • Database Administrator

  • Computer Scientist

We want to ensure that our students are constantly encouraged to explore career paths that are often overlooked, and the implementation of these workshops has always been a successful feat in broadening their horizons, and we will continue to do so.
