On Friday 5th March 2021, 42 students from our BTEC Level 3 and A-Level Physics course were selected to take part in the nationwide Senior British Physics Olympiad competition.
The British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) is a charitable trust that aims to encourage the study of Physics and recognise excellence in young physicists through ten annual Physics and Astronomy & Astrophysics competitions. It is run by a large team of volunteer physics teachers and academics from across the country.
These challenging competitions are designed to test understanding and problem solving skills and are open to able young physicists in school years 11-13. Participation in a British Physics Olympiad allows students to:
- Have fun problem solving by testing their knowledge with stimulating questions
- Experience the perseverance and determination required to solve harder problems
- See the real-world problem-solving potential of physics
- Gain a prestigious award for CVs and UCAS forms
- Win Certificates and book prizes
- Develop the skills required for admission to top universities
This year there was a total of 5767 entries nationwide. We are delighted that our students secured Shooters Hill Sixth Form College as 82nd place out of 1800 schools and colleges that competed.
